Marilyn’s Group a no-show for mediation

Yesterday, the former chief and her band council sent an un-signed letter to the Band asking for mediation in the Governance Transition dispute.

The council members, through their spokesperson contacted Tumia Knott privately with an attempt to schedule a meeting to discuss mediation. They offered Tumia a time and a place to meet up for a discussion. This is near Tumia’s law office downtown and is easily accessible to her. Tumia did not reply, did not appear to open the message, and did not show at the scheduled time.

The former chief and her supporters clearly have no interest in negotiations, mediations, or talking. This is how they have always acted, and why the former chief was voted out of council in the first place.

What they call mediations is a return to what we did in 2019, years of meetings, followed by years of delay and inaction, while Marilyn’s behaviour gets worse and worse, and Kwantlen falls further behind.

Marilyn and her 2 supporters in the old council never miss an opportunity to demonstrate their dictatorial instincts. They can’t have a simple conversation to talk things through and see if there is a middle ground.

Because of this, the only conclusion we can come to is that their offer to talk was insincere, and a move to delay legal action. Regardless, this newly elected council will continue in its work for the people.
