təm χəy̓ƛ̓ Year End Ceremony - Wednesday, December 28th
Kwantlen Band Council will be hosting a ceremony for təm χəy̓ƛ̓ - the year’s end, and a time when our people gather together to renew, and to repair things for the coming year.
We will be gathering at the Fraser River Discovery Centre in New Westminster at 1pm. This is a place that is at the heart of our culture, where χe:l̓s first found the Kwantlen people and transformed some of our ancestors into stqɑyeʔ - wolves - as a mark of those traits which define us: our persistence, our cunning, and our ability to work as a pack. This location is on the shores of our river - the stɑl̓əw̓, at the place between two of our most important villages: qiqéyt, and sχʷeyəməɬ.
We will be here to mark the passing of 2022 and the passing of Kwantlen from our period of darkness under the Indian Act and the failed dictatorship that followed it, and into warmer and happier days ahead.
These are the true customs of our people, and New Westminster is the birthplace of our nation - and neither will be neglected ever again.
All are welcome - come join us to mark this day with a brief ceremony of drumming, and a re-dedication of this important site - to help us renew and repair our Nation.
